Where do I start...
My tertiary education began with a cooperative Bachelor's Degree programme held by the then Shue Yan College and The University of Stirling, Scotland. One year in Shue Yan and two in Scotland got me my first degree (BA in EFL). My second (MA in Applied Linguistics) was earned from UNSW, Sydney. I then completed my PGDE in HKU, after which I found my current job at Ying Wa Primary School where I'm serving as the Assistant Principal and the English Panel Chairperson. During these many years of teaching, I completed my Fellowship Diploma from the London College of Music (FLCM) in Speech and Drama, and Doctor of Education (EdD) from HKU. I am a Full International Member of the Society of Teachers of Speech and Drama (STSD) and I have been serving the English Sub-committee of the Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association as a member since 2016, and as the chairman since 2022. It is another strange story why I ended up teaching kids...all I know is: I didn't choose education; education chose me. |
I have developed an interest in creative writing and publishing (see Writings). My work (poetry/short stories/photography) has appeared in Rattle, *82, Shearsman Magazine, Interpreter’s House, The Writing Disorder, The Oddville Press and elsewhere. My first poetry chapbook "of improvised song" is released by Origami Poetry Project, and my second one, "Something Celebrative or Immortal Under Another Birdless Sky", is published by Jamii Publishing. I was awarded Champion in both the Oxford Primary English Writing Competition (2019) and “Love Is All Around” The 2nd Hong Kong Chinese & English Essay-Writing Competition (2019).
In the winter of 2014, I established "BALLOONS Lit. Journal" (BLJ), a non-profit-making online literary magazine for children and young adults of the world. I am proud to be able to use my skills and interests to contribute to the literary world of which I enjoy so much being an active member. I feel that young people these days are often distracted from the joy of reading and writing. I feel responsible to redirect them to the fruits of literature appreciation and creation. And I am glad to be involved in this daily. |
